The Trends Shaping Today’s Major Changes for News, Brands, Retailers, and Cultures
Description: It’s more true than ever that the only constant is change. Take news. Not all that long ago, news was news, facts were facts, and creativity barely entered the picture. Today, real time and creativity are redefining how news is made, consumed and distributed. Twitter is a breaking news source and YouTube is a major news destination. Mobile devices are increasing global news consumption (including long-form journalism) and have spurred the merging of media and commerce. And social news sites might even be making a comeback.
Social platforms are also responsible for major transformations in PR and brand marketing. Consumers are flocking to a wide variety of fast-growing services and sites and smart brands are meeting them there, if not trying to stay one step ahead. These are the 10 social concepts most appealing to top marketers today: social news, mobile messaging, photo messaging, microvideos, photo sharing, social bookmarking, social networking/microblogging, social videos, social fashion, and social commerce/shopping.
But we can’t look only at technology when we want to know what’s next now; understanding universal truths about people and cultures will always help ground trendspotting efforts. Parents want the best for their children, everyone seeks happiness and we all know luxury when we see it, for instance, although definitions of “the best” and “happy” and “luxury” vary by culture. But reverence for the elderly does help bind cultures together, as do sports, music, animals, food and a fear of natural disasters.
So what’s next for grocery retailers, and for shoppers?
