Emerging Trends & Strategies with Digital Promotions
Description:
With more consumers having computers (96%) than televisions (93%) and almost two-thirds of Americans are now using smart phones, digital is an increasingly critical component of the marketing mix for retailers and brands wanting to engage with today’s shoppers at home, on the go and in the store.
This session will discuss the rapidly growing and changing digital landscape and how grocers and manufacturers alike are equipping themselves to market in a digital world. Roundtable participants will dive into best practices and emerging trends within digital promotions—from websites and social media presence to mobile apps and advertising.
The session, moderated by Steven Boal, founder and CEO of Coupons.com and a pioneer in digital promotions, will include findings of a shopper survey done in partnership with Interpublic Group (IPG). The study offers a firsthand look at the shopping behavior of today’s consumers and the influence of digital in the path to purchase.
Steven will use data points from the shopper survey to encourage a lively conversation, honed to participants’ expertise and interests.

REACHING FOR THEIR HEARTS BEFORE THEIR WALLETS: FIVE WAYS TO GROW CONSUMER LOYALTY
Description: Consumers – especially those in the Millennial generation – are savvier and less brand loyal than ever before. The “Great Recession” motivated value-seeking behaviors and encouraged fickle bargain shoppers to jump from store to store and brand to brand for better deals. What’s more, the amount of options consumers have at the grocery store has grown more than 50% over the past ten years, partially thanks to the growth of private label, organics, and other specialty items (FMI).
So, what can brands do to inspire customer loyalty in such a competitive environment? More than specials or coupons or other common sales tactics, it’s a deep, personal connection that makes consumers fall in love with a brand; and retailers want to be your partner in deepening that connection with consumers. Join our discussion to better understand the grocery retailer’s perspective on how to build loyalty in their stores, and ways CPG manufacturers can collaborate with retailers for optimal success. You’ll take away five actionable learnings to impact your marketing and your business.

LEGISLATING HEALTHY EATING CHOICES
Description: California’s retail grocery industry is the single greatest source of healthy, wholesome food for California consumers. Increasingly, grocery companies are partnering with dieticians, local health organizations, advocacy groups, and nutrition rating companies to voluntarily enhance health, nutrition, and food prep education and guidance for consumers. Likewise, food manufacturers have made major commitments to improving the nutrient content in the food they product. Sugar and salt content have been dramatically reduced in recent years with significant efforts underway to make even more improvements in both food content and simplicity of information available to consumers.
And yet, policymakers continue to push punitive measures in an attempt to “clean up” the retail food industry and ensure consumers have healthy food options and access to information about the choices they have. This discussion will focus on reconciling the disparity between what is happening in the industry and the perception of many policymakers. Can our industry be doing more to showcase our efforts? Is there a way to reframe the conversation to one of helping consumers take advantage of the many resources already available? Can our industry move from a position of reaction to leadership?
Join the discussion. Bring your ideas and best practices.
